There are three main types of home fences: chain link fencing; vinyl/aluminum fencing; and wood fencing. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses, pros and cons.
Chain Link Fencing: Chain link is affordable yet durable enough for most applications. It’s easy to put up but takes time to take down- so it may not be ideal if quick access is necessary. It’s also less dense than other types of fences which means sound waves won’t travel as far through it- potentially leading to noisy neighbors or children playing in the yard after hours (chain link conducts noise better when wet).
Vinyl/Aluminum Fencing: This type of fence is popular because it looks good both inside and out, is weatherproof (most varieties come with an aluminum coating that prevents rusting), lightweight enough for portability, nonconductive (so it doesn’t transmit noise),and generally cheaper than wood or chain link fences. However Vinyl/Aluminum fences cannot go higher than 6 feet tall due mainly to thermal bridging caused by metal touching metal.

Cedartone (Green Treated)

Brown Treated
Brown treated material has been introduced to replace green treated because it is a safer product and has fewer environmental implications. Green treated lumber was once popular due to its slightly lower price point, but there will not be much else missed about it. The material was retired due to its negative effect on the environment and possible health implications. In case this makes you think twice about brown treated material, don’t worry. Cedar

Picket
